The Texas A&M-Kingsville football team had four defensive players named to the 2010 All-Super Region 4 Football Team on Wednesday. Tressor Baptiste (New York, NY/Curtis HS) earned first team honors while DeIra Glover (Hempstead/Hempstead HS), Corey Robertson (Denison/Denison HS) and Johnny Tivao (Compton, CA/Paramount HS) each earned second team honors.
Baptiste backed up his Lone Star Conference South Division Linebacker of the Year Award by grabbing first team all-region honors. He led the Javelinas with 40 solo tackles, eight tackles for loss and three forced fumbles. He accumulated 66 tackles on the season and spearheaded a defensive unit that is first in the nation in rushing defense allowing a school record 57.0 yards per game. He was a key part of a defense that led the LSC in six different statistical categories.
Glover, a strong safety, and Robertson, a free safety, are each three year starters who earned LSC South First Team honors this year. Glover had 67 tackles, two tackles for loss and two interceptions while Robertson had 59 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, six pass breakups and a fumble return for a touchdown.
Tivao is a run-stuffing defensive tackle who was also a first team all-conference performer. He tallied 23 tackles while going against double and triple teams each game.
Baptiste advances to the Daktronics All-America ballot. The team, which is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems, is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
