Texas A&M-Kingsville senior defensive back Josh Luck (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton HS) was named the Lone Star Conference South Division Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Luck, a transfer from Northern Arizona, made his first start for the Javelinas a memorable one. Early in the third quarter, he made the biggest play of his career. With Angelo State driving, a pass was completed but after the catch, Luck ripped the ball out of the receiver’s hands. Not only did Luck strip the ball, but then took off for the end zone on a weaving, highlight quality 62-yard run to tie the game with 8:22 left in the third quarter. In addition to the fumble return for a touchdown, Luck also picked up a career high seven tackles and broke up a pass.
Luck is the third Javelina to be named the LSC South Defensive Player of the Week this year.
Luck and the Javelinas moved up one spot this week in the American Football Coaches Association Top 25 Poll to No. 9.
