Ranked #10

The Texas A&M-Kingsville football team received its highest preseason rating heading into the 2010 season when USA Today put them at No. 10 on Tuesday in their Special Edition College Football Preview Magazine.

TheJavelinas are coming off a 9-3 season in which they won the Lone Star Conference and advanced to the NCAA Division II Playoffs. They are one of four LSC teams appearing in the poll. The others are Abilene Christian (No. 6), West Texas A&M (No. 13) and Midwestern State (No. 17).

The Javelinas are led First Team all-LSC and First Team Daktronics Super Region Four running back Fred “Hollywood” Winborn (N. Hollywood, CA/Grant HS) on offense and safety DeIra Glover (Hempstead/Hempstead HS) on defense. Winborn rushed for 1,295 yards and scored 19 touchdowns, both top marks in the conference. Glover led the team with 89 tackles, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and four defensive touchdowns.

The Javelinas will be tested in the season opener when they head to 2009 National Champion and Preseason No. 1 Northwest Missouri State on Thursday, September 2.

Pre-Physicals


The athletes are getting their pre-physicals in the training room to make sure their bodies are ready for the upcoming season.

Two For One


The Texas A&M-Kingsville athletic department will be offering a pair of Javelina “Two for One” specials this year. When a Javelina home volleyball and football game are played on the same weekend, a ticket to the football game will also get fans into the volleyball game.

The applicable dates are September 18 and October 1-2. On September 18, the volleyball team takes on Central Oklahoma at 2 o’clock at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court while the football team hosts Texas A&M-Commerce at Javelina Stadium at 7 o’clock on Hall of Fame and Hispanic Heritage Weekend. On Friday October 1, the volleyball team plays host to Texas A&M-International at 7 o’clock and on the following day the football team hosts Abilene Christian at 7 o’clock during Family Fiesta and Law Enforcement Weekend.

Javelina Hall of Fame

Two teams and one individual will be going into the Javelina Hall of Fame on September 17 at a ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Student Union Building Ballrooms.

The 1969 Men’s Golf and 1976 Football teams and track star Lashawndra Ratcliff are the newest inductees into the Hall of Fame. Each individual and coach on the teams will receive two tickets while Ratcliff will be given eight tickets to the event. For all others wanting to attend the ceremony the cost of $25 will include a catered meal, parking pass and ticket to the football game against Texas A&M-Commerce and the volleyball game on Saturday, September 18.

In addition to the induction ceremony and game, there will also be a Hall of Fame Golf Tournament on Saturday morning. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and play starts at 9 a.m. The format will be a four-person scramble and will be played at L.E. Ramey Golf Course in Kingsville. Cost for the tournament is $100 per person or $400 per team followed by the tailgate at Javelina Stadium at 4 p.m.

For those not playing in the Hall of Fame Golf Tournament, there is a Javelina Volleyball match at 2 p.m. against Central Oklahoma in the Steinke Center. Your football game ticket will also get you into the volleyball game.
